Women I Needed to See Growing Up: Brigette McKern

I needed to see a woman like Brigette McKern growing up. When I was young I struggled with understanding chronic illness. One of my parents was constantly in hospitals and people judged my reactions to the situations far more than they ever actually talked to me about it or taught me how to handle my emotions and the situations I was going through. There are millions of people battling chronic illness and the louder we are about it the less taboo the subject will become. Brigette is a fighter. She is a double-lung transplant recipient with cystic fibrosis. And despite barely being able to breathe on her own sometimes she shared her journey via social media. Showing that there is more to her than her illness and creating a chance for those around her to have greater empathy to all. I needed to see a woman like Brigette growing up. Who did you need to see?
