Inktober 2017: Teacup Series

Inktober is a challenge created by Jake Parker to draw something in ink every single day in October. You then share your images online with the hashtag #Inktober. The project encourages artists to build the habit of drawing every day to improve your skills.

I have tried to conquer the challenge the past few years and this year I did the entire month with teacups. I have done a few of these over the past few years but this year I decided to go all in and create a full month of my Teacup Series. I love the whimsy, humor, and ingenuity I am able to create when I turn a teacup into something else. This project lets my imagination run free and see the world in a whole different way. If you want to see some work in progress photos of this series, visit my Instagram for some fun behind the scenes images.

Ok, so here is some insider info for all of you who stuck around till the end. This Inktober was completely preplanned. I have been working on it since late July. A little at a time. I have taken vacations in October and have a life like everyone else. Remember when you see amazingly curated art feeds that much of the work is preplanned WORK. This project was really fun and it made me a better artist for sure, but... it was a ton of work. I hope the behind the scenes images on Instagram have given you a sneak peek into the process and understanding of what it takes to create work on this kind of scale. Anyone can have a beautifully curated feed but there is a ton of work that goes into it! Till next Inktober!
